Laws that Protect You
Disclosing HIV Status at Work

Prejudice and ignorance in society have caused some of us to keep our HIV status a secret. Others of us challenge these attitudes and are open about our HIV status. The decision to disclose, or to tell people your HIV status, is highly personal and it is wise to weigh the potential benefits and risks of disclosing. Disclosing could affect your work environment and your relationships with co-workers, but it is a necessary condition of receiving legal protection.

Always remember that there are federal and state laws
that prohibit employment discrimination against people
with disabilities, including HIV and AIDS.
